BMOW on RetroMacCast Show
Burning through my 15 minutes of fame, I was the featured guest on this week’s episode of the RetroMacCast show – listen to it here. RetroMacCast is a weekly podcast about vintage Macintosh systems, software, and collectibles. Hosts James and John have been doing this since (at least) 2008! They were kind enough to invite me to this week’s show, where we discussed Floppy Emu, Plus Too, Tetris Max, and my other Apple-related hacks.
This recording prompted an interesting side-discussion: have I been mispronouncing “Floppy Emu” for the past two years? Is it “emyoo” (short e + myoo, as in ’emulator’), “eemyoo” (long e + myoo, a flightless Australian bird), or “eemoo” (long e + moo, an electronic cow sound)?

I vote for the flightless bird pronunciation.
We have actually been podcasting since 2006! Even our show is retro! Thanks again for sharing with us your terrific projects. We look forward to more great stuff and to have you return to the show to share again!
I’ve been imagining a not only flightless, but also boneless, bird. My sense of humor may be a bit warped though.
The boneless bird was what I always intended… which suggests an interesting icon for the project. 🙂
i like RMC, but i really wish they would work on really getting into the NITTY gritty of Mac hardware, instead of , trying hard to
be smooth radio personalities.
that is what i liked about earl – retrobits but he only makes one show per year.
and doesn’t really talk about mac all that much.
Maybe get someone on to talk about Caps… I bet james has a butt load of macs that need caps.
Hi. I just found your website via Jason Snell’s article today on Macworld. My oldest Mac is a G4 Cube and most recent a Mac Studio. So unfortunately I don’t have a need for your obviously brilliant device.
I watched your video and heard how you pronounced your product’s name. As an Australian I think I can answer the question about how to say “emu”: You are correct with the “e” sound but the “mu” part is pronounced to rhyme with “q” or words like “few” or “view” or “crew”.
So “emu” rhymes with “sea view”
Cheers from Sydney, Australia.
